John Bradley Scholarship of Honor

John Bradley, Appleton, WI

John Bradley graduated from Appleton West in 1942. He served his country as a US Navy Corpsman in World War II. Bradley received the prestigious Navy Cross for his bravery in saving lives at Iwo Jima. He was also one of six service members who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima in the famous photo, and in the movie and book, "Flags of our Fathers" After he returned from the war, he married high school sweetheart, Betty, and they had eight children. He fulfilled his life-long dream by buying and managing his own funeral parlor. Bradley's loss in 1994 at the age of 70 saddened his home town of Appleton, Wisconsin and the family he left behind.

2007 bradley

The first John Bradley Scholarship of Honor was awarded to Luke Justman in May 2007. Luke will be a combat medic. Luke was presented the scholarship by Mrs. Bradley (l) and scholarship sponsors Ron and Colleen Wyers.
