Dear Mr. and Mrs. LaViolette,
I heard about your son Brianšs death for the first time a few months ago in Packer Profiles. Being a young writer myself, hearing Brianšs story means much more to me than you will ever know. There should be a saying to the effect that writers never die, because their spirit, wisdom, and memories remain in the words which they put on paper. I believe such is the case with Brian. I never heard about him or had the chance to meet him (before the Profiles article) but yet I somehow feel that I know Brian. His gentle spirit and ageless wisdom has been so faithfully replicated in what he wrote. I am enclosing a poem which I wrote shortly after reading about Brian. God bless you.
Sincerely, Miriam Neff
