To recap the last couple of years in a few paragraphs is difficult because it
has been an amazing time. In part through our new relationship with
Scholarships Inc., Brian’s Foundation has been able to increase our annual
scholarship awards to 33, which includes every high school in Brown and
Door Counties, plus Oconto and Suring High Schools.
On January 23, 2003, Brian’s 26th birthday, we released our book, “The
Journey is The Reward.” A project we’ve worked on for a couple of years
and wondered if it would ever get done or if anyone would really care to
read it. Both have surprised us. Yes, we did get it done. And yes people
have really been inspired by what was written by not only the LaViolette’s
but other caring families touched by great losses.
At press time of this newsletter, we are just finishing up the final details for
our September 16, 2003, “Journey to the Stars” event with Henry Winkler
at Lambeau Field, and a limited-edition print by Don Klotzke titled, “The
Diehard Journey Continues.”
Lastly, and most importantly in our life is the graduation of our daughter Kim from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on
May 17, 2003, with a degree in business. Kim hopes to land a job in a smaller city where her entrepreneurial emphasis will be
used. We’re very, very proud of her. This past year she received the Dr. Lortenz Memorial Scholarship Award for Demonstrating
Entrepreneurial Leadership.
Brian’s Foundation could not operate withought the many people who give of their time and talents. Each bring their own
speical ideas to help us continue our journey of growing “our business”, the business of helping the youth of this area.
Thank you so much! Your continued support of Brian’s Foundation have made our daily journey truly our reward.
Doug, Renee and Kim LaViolette
